Final Submission Project 3

After review from Andrew Wallace that my concept was not solid, describing that the application is interesting but it had no purpose. Originally the new concept was a continually moving structure which reacted with the people and the environment changing shape and interacting with the populous.

This was then dumped due to program  limitations and limited time.
The idea was scripted and is provided here : https://www.dropbox.com/s/qsing5ycxukf185/arch1201ass3finalscript.gh

The new concept focused around the wildlife and park itself and started with some concept designs:

The concept was decided to be derived from insects, it was mostly inspired around the exoskeleton of insects in which there are overlapping carapaces. This allows people to connect to the park more as with the interaction of the park life but also hints at the effects people are having on the park and land itself acting as a sort of parasite.

Initial Concept drawing:

This was developed in Rhino with the use of grasshopper, starting with a box the shape was eventually cut into it this however meant that it was no longer a closed brep, so it was transferred to sketchup to refine and close the openings and become a building.

This was then reinserted into rhino in order to gain context of the model with the previously class made model of the environment:

Sketchup was used to create the section and floor plans of the building, the model was then placed in lumion in order to produce a higher quality images and animation than with rhino or sketchup.

Project 3 Interim Submission 1

When designing for the new light rail several amenities and parameters:
  • Bike Racks
  • Toilets
  • Seating
  • Information and Timetable
  • Shading and Protection from the weather
  • Food/ drinks services
  • Achieving a state of rest and comfort while waiting for transport
  • Rubbish Bins
  • Well lit
This has been achieved by including bike racks, a toilet area, a large roof for the Light Rail Stop, rubbish bins and vending machines to accommodate a quick stop and interchange style of transport.
The Rail Stop itself was to present an easily identified landmark of which I was trying to imitate some natural forms presented in the context of the park and trees, minimizing my impact on the park itself due to the areas lack of greenery and nature, including the ANZAC memorial as to keep its original placement in order to honor the soldiers
